Program Launch: Basket weaving and soap making with KAWODA

Project Overview

The Kyenjojo Association of Women Development Actors (KAWODA) is launching a transformative project in Nyabirongo, Uganda, to empower young women through vocational training. This initiative will provide essential skills in tailoring, basket weaving, and soap making, enabling participants to earn sustainable incomes and build successful businesses. With a focus on adolescent girls and young women aged 14-24 who have faced early pregnancies, child marriage, or other challenges, the project aims to break generational cycles of poverty and dependency.

Mission

KAWODA is committed to empowering women and promoting gender equality by providing them with vocational skills, financial literacy, and leadership training. The program specifically focuses on vulnerable women, including those from HIV/AIDS-affected families, widows, and those with disabilities. By fostering self-reliance, KAWODA helps participants break the cycle of poverty and gain control over their financial future.

Project Measurements

Success will be evaluated through:

●      The number of young women trained in tailoring, weaving, and business skills.

●      The number of participants who start earning a sustainable income.

●      The increase in personal savings and financial stability among participants.

●      The total monthly revenue generated from the sale of woven bags.

●      The number of business and financial literacy training sessions conducted.

●      The number of participants who secure employment or launch their own businesses.

By providing hands-on training and business mentorship, this project is set to create economic opportunities for young women and their communities.
