Program Launch: Bee Keeping with ACTNGONO
The Giving Exchange has teamed up with Action for Ngono Basin Reforestation (ACTNGONO) to launch an exciting new project in Muleba District, Tanzania. This initiative focuses on training 50 young women, aged 18-32, in beekeeping and honey production to help them create sustainable incomes while supporting their communities and the environment.
Project Overview
Along with hands-on training and support, participants will receive two modern beehives, essential equipment, and guidance to produce honey and other products like beeswax candles and balms. The program will teach participants about conservation agriculture to improve crop yields through pollination.
Beyond the training, the project will invest in local skills by training carpenters to build hives and teaching women to make bee suits from local materials. To further strengthen the community, 400 tree seedlings will be distributed, and participants will learn to manage tree nurseries, combining income generation with environmental care.
Mission
This project focuses on empowering young women with the skills and opportunities they need to build a brighter future. By creating job opportunities and supporting environmental conservation, the program tackles critical issues like unemployment, food insecurity, and early child marriages.
Project Measurements
Here’s how success will be tracked:
● The number of women trained in beekeeping and honey production
● The amount of honey and wax produced and sold
● Revenue generated from sales
● Increases in crop yields thanks to better pollination
● Increase in participant income
This initiative is about creating lasting change, both for the women and for the wider community. With the support of The Giving Exchange and ACTNGONO, these women are building brighter futures while taking care of the environment.
