Project Launch: MUB Home Foundation
The Giving Exchange is excited to announce the launch of the Tailoring and Hairdressing Skills Project in partnership with MUB Home Foundation ("Mobilizing Ugandans Better for Development") that aims to transform the lives of 30 adolescent girls in Kisinga Sub County, Uganda. This project seeks to empower vulnerable young women with the skills needed for self-reliance, giving them the tools to escape poverty and build brighter futures.
Project Overview: Empowering the Next Generation
MUB Home Foundation's mission is to promote the empowerment of underprivileged groups, including adolescent girls, women, people with disabilities, and the elderly, through capacity building and access to information. This project aligns perfectly with their mission by targeting adolescent girls who are particularly vulnerable to exploitation and abuse due to a lack of skills and opportunities.
The Tailoring and Hairdressing Skills Project offers an intensive 9-month training program followed by 6 months of mentorship, preparing participants for success in tailoring (fashion and design), hairdressing, and essential business skills like financial literacy, customer service, and record-keeping.
Main Objectives
The project aims to achieve the following:
Equip 30 adolescent girls with skills in tailoring (fashion and design) and hairdressing.
Provide these girls with financial management skills to ensure they can sustain their own businesses.
Increase income for the girls, helping alleviate poverty in their families and communities.
How It Works: Training, Mentorship, and Financial Support
Skills Training:
Over a 9-month intensive training period, the girls will learn the intricacies of tailoring, fashion design, and hairdressing, empowering them with marketable skills.Business Mentorship:
Following the training, the girls will participate in a 6-month mentorship program, where they will apply their skills and gain experience in a real-world setting. During this time, they will also learn essential business skills, including financial management and customer care.Income Generation and Startup Support:
As part of the mentorship program, each girl will accumulate income from her work. At the end of the mentorship, 65% of that income will be given to her as startup capital to launch her own business. The remaining 35% will be saved by the organization for emergencies and to maintain the training tools.
Key Measurements of Success
The success of the Tailoring and Hairdressing Skills Project will be measured in several ways:
Completion Rate: The number of girls who complete the training in both tailoring and hairdressing.
Entrepreneurial Impact: The number of girls who successfully start their own businesses after training.
Financial Literacy: Participants’ understanding of business operations, including record keeping and financial management.
Income Generation: The amount of income generated during the training and mentorship period.
Community Benefit: The indirect benefit to the girls' families and communities through improved financial stability and poverty alleviation.
A Sustainable Future
This project has a high potential for sustainability due to MUB Home Foundation's structured organization and focus on income-generating activities. With readily available raw materials and a market for finished products, the girls who graduate from this program will be well-equipped to create a stable and self-reliant future for themselves.
Stay tuned for updates as we follow the progress of these inspiring young women on their journey to self-reliance and community leadership!
