Dairy Production Improvements for Morning Star Children's Home
The Giving Exchange (TGE) remains dedicated to sustainable development, and our continued partnership with Morning Star Children's Home in Kiambu County, Kenya, is a testament to this commitment. In fact, TGE was founded ten years ago with the simple dream of brightening the future for the 50 children who annually call Morning Star their home each year. Over the past decade, we've worked hand-in-hand with the home to grow their on-campus microenterprises to fund their operations sustainably.
In 2023, TGE extended support to Morning Star, introducing a Feed Mixing & Grinding Machine and a Milking Machine to enhance the home’s dairy production capabilities. These machines stand as a shining (literally) example of the transformative power of technology, increasing the pace of the agricultural work, and also elevating the well-being of the children and staff at Morning Star.
The Milking Machine has significantly boosted milk production at Morning Star. The most recent addition to Morning Star's family now yields an impressive 41 liters of milk daily. Beyond efficiency, the Milking Machine plays a crucial role in managing pregnant cows still being milked. With three expectant cows under care, the machine ensures a stress-free milking process, contributing to overall livestock health and well-being.
The Feed Mixing & Grinding Machine has revolutionized feed preparation. What was once a labor-intensive, manual process is now an efficient and hygienic operation. The machine ensures a thorough and uniform mix of feed, eliminating contamination risks associated with manual handling. Precision in meeting the nutritional needs of the cows enhances their overall health, yet another factor in boosting milk production.
