Day 8 - Karambi Group

Uplifting Communities through Animal Feed Production with Karambi Group

Welcome to Day 8 of our anniversary celebration! Today, we shine the spotlight on one of our impactful projects that is making a difference for communities.

We love sharing inspiring stories of the individual people and families impacted by our projects – and the story of Moses, a beneficiary of the Karambi Group project, is no exception. Through our partnership with the Karambi Group, we have been able to support Moses, his family, and the local community to create opportunities for sustainable growth.

Join us as we delve into the details of this transformative initiative:

Title of the document DONATE NOW

The Karambi Group of People with Disabilities is a non-profit organization based in Kasese, Uganda whose goal is to empower people with disabilities and their families to improve their quality of life. They work to advocate and promote basic human rights for people with disabilities through social and economic inclusion and rehabilitation. The group currently supports 272 children and 359 adults with disabilities.

Our partnership with Karambi Group focuses on animal feed production, a key component of sustainable community development. This project aims to provide local farmers with the knowledge, skills, and resources to produce high-quality animal feed using Black Soldier Fly Larvae (BSFL). By leveraging this innovative approach, we are creating opportunities for improved animal nutrition, increased productivity, and enhanced livelihoods.

Through the Karambi Group project, we have witnessed remarkable transformations in the lives of individuals like Moses, a local farmer who has embraced animal feed production to improve his farming practices and income. In our featured video above this page, Moses shares his journey and the positive impact this project has had on his life and the wider community.

The project has not only empowered individuals like Moses but has also contributed to the overall development of the community. By equipping farmers with the skills and knowledge to produce their own animal feed, we are fostering self-sufficiency, reducing dependency on external sources, and promoting sustainable agricultural practices. Another key benefit to the community is that the farmers establish partnerships with local hotels to collect organic waste for the black soldier flies to feed on, thereby reducing waste in the country.

Additionally, the use of BSFL as a protein source in animal feed has proven to be cost-effective and environmentally friendly. It reduces reliance on traditional protein sources, such as fishmeal, which often depletes natural resources and contributes to environmental degradation. The adoption of BSFL as a sustainable protein source has long-term benefits for the community and the surrounding ecosystem.
